Sport climbing training at Kalinga Stadium from July 26

Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) plans to start sport climbing training program for boys and girls of 10 to 16 years of age group at the High Performance Centre for the sport, located at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar from July 26, 2019.

According to a press release received from the Department of Sports & Youth Services, Government of Odisha, national and international level professionals have been hired to conduct the training programme. Registration for the programme, which is free of cost, started at climbing wall site, North Stand, Hockey Complex, Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar earlier on July 18.

IMF, which is the apex national body for mountaineering and allied sports in India, has, in collaboration with Department of Sports & Youth Services, set up the High Performance Center for Sport Climbing at Kalinga Stadium with an aim to take the Indian sport climbing to international level. The sport climbing wall was inaugurated earlier this year in February.

Sport climbing is now an Olympic discipline, making its debut in 2020 in Tokyo and 2024 in Paris. In view of this, IMF has planned a detailed roadmap with an aim to spread awareness about the sport and identify athletes at an early age. IMF also plans to build an Indian team for international level competitions.
